To Do... or What to do?

Updated: Nov 1

While Science has taken huge leaps and bounds in time and technology, it has still not set its priorities straight. I will maintain that the need of the hour is a teleportation machine, however, all I want right here, right now, is a huge red button to stop life for a few moments. Just to gather my thoughts. Maybe God can start working on that, huh?

Doesn't it ever feel like you have wayyyy too much going on to even have time to take a breath? Like you are running on a treadmill but its actually a wheel that keeps rolling faster and faster and you can barely hang on? When you finally decide to let go and free fall, Doesn't it feel like you are drowning in the expectations of all your loved ones and yourself? Doesn't it? Right? Right?

Well that's how I feel right now. The problem, however, arises when you don't know what you want to let go of from that web of commitments. That thing that you've always wanted to do or that task that you really really want to do or that stuff that your friend really needs you to do? So you just load everything onto your plate like an all you can eat buffet of wedding starters, only the consequences are much worse than an upset stomach. Sleep schedule goes for a toss, time management is a myth of an alternate world and 'me time' is something only influencers can achieve while still seeming like they have 30 hours in a day!

Sometimes life becomes a loaded google calendar pinging you every moment with yet another chore or commitment that you just don't have the social energy for. At such a point in time its not just you that suffers it's the ones closest to you that face the wrath of your frustration. And friendships are like the thinnest cotton thread, durable yet very easily breakable too. Only we know the amount of times we've displaced our anger and then rotted in guilt because of it for the whole day. But, When you come home already thinking of your to do list for tomorrow is when anger bubbles in the empty stomach, and when you get your least favorite meal on that day for dinner....well, SOMETIMES YOU LOSE IT OKAY. Then you start spouting poetry about burnout....

The incessant ticking of time without a pause,

Worries thousand, yet none has a cause,

Hornets buzzing like thoughts in my mind,

Relief, a breath I can't seem to find...

.....And you know you really need a break.

The true power of a simple hug manifests on such days. All you need is your best friend to tell you it's going to be okay or your partner to listen to your yapping or even your mom to hold you together. A kind word, a gentle smile, an innocent word of appreciation goes a long way. Often though, while we may or may not receive this kindness, we forget to pass it into the world. We forget to be that person for someone else. In our own messed up desires to pause life, we forget that someone else also wants to pause theirs. Simply hugging someone for more than 20 seconds is scientifically known to make you happier, and the joy that comes from being that unasked for hug to someone is otherworldly.

So the next time someone makes a ridiculous comment or just plain frustrates you by their dumb existence, hug them. They might need it.

..... They might just slap you if you're a boy and they're a girl but gender biases are topics for yet another blog... For now goodbye and good luck managing the mess that you call a timetable,

Love, Ri.
